Ceramidone
Ceramidone is the Octyldodecyl Ester of L-PCA (L-Pyrrolidone Carboxylic Acid). Ceramidone has a structure similar to that of skin ceramides enabling it to help restructure the skin barrier.
UCIB (part of The Solabia Group) specialises in the research and development of innovative chemical active ingredients, and is particularly strong in the area of L-PCA (L-Pyrrolidone Carboxylic Acid) and its derivatives. L-PCA is part of the skin's Natural Moisturising Factor (NMF) and has moisturising and hydrating properties. L-PCA is obtained by the cyclisation of the L-Glutamic Acid, an amino acid of plant origin. Derivatives of L-PCA also have other benefits.
Ceramidone is the Octyldodecyl Ester of L-PCA (L-Pyrrolidone Carboxylic Acid). Ceramidone is a lipophilic PCA ester with a structure similar to that of skin ceramides (with a polar head and two lipophilic carbonated chains). This enables Ceramidone to help restructure the skin barrier. Ceramidone stimulates the synthesis of epidermal lipids, especially Cerebrosides and Ceramides 1 and 2.
