Ageraline is a phyto-active ingredient obtained by hydroglycolic extraction from the leaves of Ageratum. The Creoles (Guyana) prepare small chews from the juice of the leaves, which is rich in mucilage, to soothe a sore throat. The upper parts of the plant, which are used in herbal teas, have diuretic properties. In Africa, the plant is currently used in the treatment of mental disorders and infections. In both Madagascar and French Polynesia, the plant is used because of the soothing and analgesic properties of its leaves.
