Lantanine is a vegetal active ingredient that is obtained via hydroglycolic extraction of Madagascar Golden Alyssum Leaves. It contains hydroxycinnamic derivatives and phenols. In tropical countries, preparations made from Lantana leaves are consumed for their anti-tussive properties (excellent cough remedy). In Guyana, Lantana leaves (alone or combined with other plants) are used as an oral infusion or as a relaxing bath preparation for their apyretic (fever-alleviating) properties. The flowers and especially the leaves are used to combat influenza and pulmonary diseases. In Brazil, baths scented with Lantana leaves are recommended for the relief of scabies thanks to their antiseptic properties. In Madagascar, Lantana leaves are used in plasters to promote wound healing.
