Trigogenine is a vegetal active ingredient obtained via hydroglycolic extraction of Fenugreek Seeds. It contains Diosgenine and Trigonelline, and is recommended for use as a regenerating, anti-ageing active ingredient. It can help to enhance cell renewal and offset the risk of irritation and dry skin by increasing the synthesis of certain lipids (ceramides, cholesterol). It is a herbal alternative to treatments containing AHAs and retinoids. Fenugreek was discovered thousands of years ago and was widely used by the Chinese as well as by the Greeks, Romans, Egyptians and Arabs. The Egyptians placed Fenugreek on their altars to honour and pacify their gods. The plant was also used for embalming purposes. Roman agricultural references mentioned Fenugreek several years B.C. The Benedictine monks introduced this plant into Central Europe and then into France for its medicinal properties in the early IXth century.
