Castorlatum
Castorlatum is a Castor Oil-derived alternative to Petrolatum. It is less oily and has a similar consistency and melting point.
Castor Oil is a non-toxic, biodegradable and renewable resource. It contains a high proportion of Ricinoleic Acid (12-Hydroxyoleic Acid) and has high product uniformity and consistency for a naturally occurring material. Castor Oil is noted for its ability to carry a high concentration of dyes and pigments, which is a requirement of colour cosmetics such as lipsticks. The Vertellus line of castor-based derivatives range from low viscosity to high melting point solids, from unsaturation to full saturation, and from oil soluble to complete water solubility.
Castorlatum is a vegetable-derived alternative to Petrolatum. It is less oily and has a similar consistency and melting point. Castorlatum is a good solvent and pigment wetter. It is recommended for use in anhydrous formulations such as lipstick and lip treatment products, and in emulsions such as creams and lotions.
